Prue Car MP Special Visit To Link-Up (NSW)

Aboriginal organisation Link-Up (NSW) has thanked Member for Londonderry and NSW Shadow Education Minister Prue Car, for her special visit to the organisation’s office in Ropes Crossing office today, co-inciding with its February Board Meeting.

After an Acknowledgment to Country by Aunty Pat Field, Ms Car met Link-Up CEO Janelle Clarke, Uncle Dennis Dunn and long-serving Board Member Aunty Janet Smith, a Cootamundra Stolen Generation woman, before being introduced to other Members of the Board, Executive and hard working staff. The Mehi Mob performed an Aboriginal cultural dance and Didgeridoo performance.

“We would like to express our thanks to Ms Car for her ongoing interest and support of Link- Up’s work in her electorate of Londonderry and the wider Western Sydney community,” Ms Clarke said today.

“In our 40 th Anniversary year, Link-Up’s proud history of helping Aboriginal people, who have been deeply impacted by removal and separation, Link-Up continues to work with our community stakeholders to build-on our programs and support networks for local Aboriginal people and their families.

“We will be working together to develop new strategies and to strengthen our current programs, like our Community Builder Program, which urgently requires additional funding from the NSW Government in order for us to employ another Link-Up field officer, to extend
our support in schools in Seven Hills, Blacktown and Mt Druitt areas.

“Strengthening links within Western Sydney schools will help us build culture, resilient communities and self-determination.”

About Link-Up (NSW)

Link-Up (NSW) Aboriginal Corporation was founded in 1980 to assist Aboriginal people who had been directly affected by past government policies; being separated from their families and culture through forced removal, being fostered adopted or raised in institutions.

It supports the healing journeys of those removed; delivering professional, culturally sensitive and confidential research, reunions and Social, Emotional and Wellbeing services to those over the age of 18.

Acknowledgement of Country

We would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we work and live.  We pay respect to our Elders past and present and to our fellow Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We also acknowledge our Stolen Generation and the pain that will never go away, but for a better future we must move forward for our family and our younger generations to come.  We are one with our heritage and culture, we are a part of Mother Nature.

I Acknowledge
